infoWhat is outbound academic mobility?

Outbound academic mobility refers to situations where students, faculty, or staff from a university travel to study, teach, train, or conduct professional and research internships at a partner institution. It provides students with the opportunity to study at another university—either in their home country or abroad—for one semester or one academic year, with all completed courses being fully recognized and transferred to their home institution.

This includes:

  • Student exchange programs within bilateral agreement
  • Erasmus+ mobility, Mevlana, Orhun, other programs
  • Short-term international programs (summer/winter schools)
  • Internships or traineeships in home country / abroad
  • Research mobility (visiting research stays)
  • Mobility for teaching (faculty teaching weeks abroad)
  • Participation in dual/ joint degree programs (if part of the study is abroad)

A Center for International Cooperation usually manages all international academic activities of the university, which includes:

A. Managing outbound mobility
  • Organizing and announcing student exchange programs
  • Advising students on universities, programs, scholarships
  • Coordinating faculty and staff mobility
  • Ensuring recognition of academic credits received abroad
B. Signing agreements
  • MoUs, exchange agreements, Erasmus+ inter-institutional agreements
  • Partnerships with universities, embassies, foundations
C. Supporting students
  • Visa and registration assistance
  • Individual educational programs / Learning agreements
  • Housing guidance (if needed)

The set of documents varies by university, but the most common package includes:

    Transcript of records / grades (GPA not less than 2.7)
    Enrollment certificate of sending university

  • B. Application forms

    Invitation letter from host university
    Application form of the host university
    Internal university application form

  • C. Language documents

    Language certificate (IELTS, TOEFL, Duolingo, CEFR certificate (no less than 6.0)
    Or university-issued language proficiency letter

  • D. Motivation & recommendations

    Motivation letter
    CV / Resume
    Letter of recommendation (optional but often required)
